Chiswick House and Gardens Trust is fundraising for new play
equipment for the children’s play area next to the Chiswick House Café. The
current equipment is sadly getting past its prime, with the only swing breaking
beyond repair last month. Any new equipment is subject to the success of some
grant applications and community fundraising, but the Trust is optimistic and
excited about the prospect of developing a more engaging, inspiring and
interactive space to play for children and their families.
After an extensive consultation multiple design companies were approached for ideas, having been given the brief of developing a sustainable, natural playground with a menagerie theme to tie into the history of the Estate: the 6th Duke of Devonshire kept a variety of ‘exotic’ creatures on the Estate in the 19th Century*.
The winning design has come from Infinite Playgrounds, experts in natural and adventure play, with glowing recommendations. The plans are now ready to view and include a Monkey’s Treehouse with a slide, a new sandpit area, a ‘Tree Lab’ and plenty of new swings. Our expert gardening team will supplement these designs by working to create sensory areas within the playground, with willow arches and aromatic, tactile plants. To do all this we need to raise over £100,000, most of which it is hoped will come from grant funding from a trust or foundation.
Chiswick House and Gardens wants to make these designs a reality but cannot do this without our communities’ help, whether that is spreading the word, donating to our crowdfunder or attending one of our upcoming fundraising events, which are being developed with the help of a voluntary fundraising committee. The Trust needs to supplement potential grant income with at least £10,000 of community funding, though this figure may rise depending on the outcome of our applications.
The children in our community deserve safe and engaging places to play and Chiswick House and Gardens wants to provide this with a new creative, inspiring, and historically sympathetic play-space.
