First created as a site for larger-than-life parties, the House has since lived many lives, from hosting Queen Victoria herself to operating as a mental health institution from 1892 to 1928.

The House opens its doors to visitors every summer and welcomes group tours all year round. Walk through its the sumptuous rooms, marvel at its collection of paintings and discover the stories of its previous residents.

Stories told through a diversity of voices

Each year at Chiswick House, visitors can experience the Black Chiswick through History installation, showcasing fresh interpretations of the House and its collections, foregrounding Black history and the stories of people of colour who have been a part of these historic spaces from the very beginning. Launched in 2021, this ongoing community research project is led by historian Nadege Forde-Vidal and artist Ayesha Weekes, in collaboration with local groups and young people.

Details for the 2026 display will be announced later this year.
