On Location

It was here at Chiswick in May 1966 that The Beatles, tired from touring the world, made a pair of promotional videos for the new singles ‘Paperback Writer’ and ‘Rain’. The Beatles shot their videos in the Conservatory, the Walled Garden and in front of the Exedra. One of the world’s first ever promotional videos for their Number 1 single, ‘Paperback Writer’, was filmed in the grounds.

Other bands followed, including The Jam who posed by the stonework for their single ‘Absolute Beginners’ in the summer of 1981.

Music has always played a big part in the House’s history. The rock ‘n’ roll call of stars who have played in the grounds includes The Hoosiers, Tom Baxter, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Keane, All Saints, Will Young, The Kooks, The Sugababes, and The Feeling. Chiswick also features in many films and television programmes, including The Duchess with Keira Knightley, Killing Eve, Antiques Roadshow, the Great British Bake off and Horrible Histories, and is regularly used as a location for fashions shoots from Channel and Vogue to Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair.
