Our summer 2024 Creative Programme
What does food mean to you? How does it feel to cook for others, and how does it feel to eat and share a meal that someone else has made for us? Can eating together bring us closer together? And how do our experiences of eating and growing food fit in with the wider circle of life and the natural world?
Our 2024 Creative Programme, generously funded by Arts Council England, centred around two food-themed art projects, both based in the Chiswick House Kitchen Garden.
For Harvesting Connection: A Communal Table, London-based artist Ayesha Weekes designed and created a communal wooden long table, constructed in collaboration with her husband Mark Weekes, and destined to have a lasting home in the Kitchen Garden.
Made from reclaimed materials, including fallen holly and sycamore logs from the Chiswick House woodlands, and decorated with handcrafted ceramics, the table now sits inside the 17th century walled garden, surrounded by the fruit, grains, flowers and vegetables cultivated by CHGT’s dedicated gardeners and volunteers.
For Flower Feast, local artist Jaixia Blue has created a sensory Kitchen Garden trail, designed to get visitors exploring the different kinds of life in the garden, learning about the importance of pollinators and engaging with the exciting sounds, smells and textures around them.
The trail launched on August 2nd, and will be available until the Kitchen Garden closes for the year on October 27th.
