Curated by local arts organisation Art Jar in 2023, The Heart of Design was a vibrant exhibition of newly commissioned artworks exploring the theme ‘300 years of built and natural design’. Part of Chiswick House and Gardens’ 2023 creative programme and developed alongside the Black Chiswick through History project, it reflected how design at Chiswick has been shaped by global influences, cultural exchange and community voices.

The exhibition featured work by Tanvi Kant, Leah Muwanga-Magoye, Art Jar and Nava Ahmed, created in collaboration with local groups including HAAYA and The Rivercourt Project with Kite Studios. From textile installations to nature-inspired ceramics and collaborative storytelling, each artwork responded uniquely to Chiswick House and Gardens’ design legacy—revealing untold stories, diasporic memories and intergenerational perspectives.
