Our Current Campaign
Help us conserve our Conservatory!
The Conservatory at Chiswick House and Gardens was built over 200 years ago, a forerunner to large glass houses such as the one at Kew and at Crystal Palace.
In the 200 years since, the Conservatory has grown fruit, sheltered some of the first varieties of camellia to come to Britain, briefly been the home to peacocks and featured as a backdrop to one of the first music videos, the Beatles ‘Paperback Writer’. It has also passed through numerous owners, been left to fall into ruin and near collapse, and it even withstood bombing during World War II!
Today, caring for the Grade I listed building can be a tall task; it takes £1500 a year just to clean the windows and a huge £20,000 a year to keep it in the condition that it deserves. Please consider helping us in our work, so the Conservatory can stand triumphant for many years to come.
