Meet our trees, find out more about the work we’re doing to boost biodiversity, and discover the woodlands of Chiswick House

Join us on an exclusive woodland walk, guided by a member of our gardens team, to discover more about the two wooded areas of our gardens and their history, and find out about our new ‘Letting the light in’ project.

Currently, the two woodland areas at Chiswick House are lovingly looked after by our team of gardeners and volunteers, who regularly undertake work like coppicing, felling small trees and removing scrub.

Home to majestic mature oaks, conifers, sweet chestnut and limes, the woodlands also support a range of wildlife. Species found here include hedgehogs, various bats, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, and many, many insects, from Speckled Wood and Green-veined White butterflies, to beautiful Solider beetles, ladybirds and Stag beetles.

However, more care is needed if we are to ensure these areas remain healthy and diverse for years to come.

That’s why we’re starting ‘Letting the light in’: an ambitious new programme of work, funded by the Rewild London initiative, to manage the woods in a way that boosts their biodiversity, protects natural ecosystems and guards the health of our precious trees.

During the hour-long walk, you’ll be able to find out more about the future of trees, the ‘Letting the light in’ project, ask questions, and see the areas where the work will have the biggest impact.

You’ll also be able to meet some of our oldest and most important trees (we have over 1,600 on site), soak up the glorious autumn colours, and spend time in some of the most beautiful, slightly more hidden areas of the gardens.

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for the weather and woodland conditions. Spaces are limited, so please do sign up quickly to reserve a spot.
