Green Flag Award 2023

Chiswick House & Gardens Trust has been awarded the coveted Green Flag Award and officially recognised as one of the country’s best parks.

Today we’re celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award! The news that Chiswick House & Gardens Trust has achieved the accreditation, the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, is testament to the hard work and dedication our staff and incredible volunteers that care for the green space so that everyone can enjoy it.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said:

I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Chiswick House & Gardens Trust in achieving a Green Flag Award. Chiswick House & Gardens is a vital green space for the Hounslow community, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.

The Green Flag Award Scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, a leading environmental charity that sets the standard for the management of parks and beaches, inspire people to be litter-free, to waste less and live more sustainably.

The Green Flag judges were particularly impressed by the work we are doing to improve our historic landscape for our visitor’s enjoyment, whilst reducing our environmental impact and increasing our community and volunteer involvement.

Rosie Fyles, Head of Gardens said:

We’re absolutely delighted to have received the Green Flag Award and it’s encouraging to receive such positive comments about the conservation work we’ve been carrying out in the last year. For example, we’ve been trialling a technique to replace areas of failing formal hedging with weaved willow and hazel fencing. The dead-hedge habitats we’ve created were regarded as innovative and inspiring by the judges.

Xanthe Arvanitakis, Director of Chiswick House & Gardens Trust added:

As well as the hard work of our dedicated staff and volunteers looking after our precious green spaces, I also want to take this opportunity to thank our community of visitors for respecting our natural habitats and taking their litter home with them. It all helps to keep the Gardens looking beautiful for everyone to enjoy every day!
