Free entry to the Kitchen Garden in 2024!

We’re throwing open the gates to our thriving Kitchen Garden with free entry to everyone Thursday to Sunday from 28 March this year.

From 28 March until 27 October 2024, visitors will be able to explore the 17th century walled garden free of charge, Thursday to Sunday in 2024. From asparagus and edible flowers to pumpkins and dahlias, we’re cultivating an incredible 200+ varieties of fruit, veg, flowers and herbs in this thriving, productive space. It’s a beautiful place for our visitors to connect with the seasons. Visit this March and April to enjoy a magnificent display of spring flowers including Narcissus and tulips.

Rosie Fyles, our Head of Gardens, said,

Our dedicated gardening team and volunteers pour incredible effort into cultivating this bountiful space, yet the majority of visitors to the grounds have yet to explore this hidden gem. For over 300 years this walled garden has offered visitors beauty, pleasure and connection and it’s been a personal aim to share this unique space more widely.

In 2023 we donated over a tonne of nutritious produce harvested from the Kitchen Garden. This translated into over 2600 meals for charities working to address local food poverty, including The Felix Project and Surplus to Supper.

However, the Kitchen Garden is not simply a productive growing space, it is also a crucial community hub and a peaceful haven. Working to address challenges that are increasingly common across the Borough, we welcome multiple community groups and schools from across Hounslow, with a range of projects that tackle issues such as isolation and loneliness and a lack of access to nature.

By making entry to the Kitchen Garden free, we hope that visitors will both enjoy the achievements of our green-fingered gardeners, volunteers and community groups and see for themselves the positive impact that this beautiful space has on the lives of the people of Hounslow.

With the Conservatory now closed to the public due to its increasingly fragile state, access to the Kitchen Garden will be via the newly-named Gardeners’ Gate located on the path between the Conservatory and the Rosary.
